|Phyllis and John send greetings from
CHRISTMAS COVE FARM! Our farm is located on the beautiful Leelanau
Peninsula of Michigan. We are surrounded by the clear blue waters of
Lake Michigan and Northport Bay. The climate is ideal for growing
quality fruit - including apples, cherries, peaches and plums. Our
Northport is picturesque and the countryside reminds one of a
patchwork quilt. John became interested in the many varieties of ANTIQUE
APPLES which have slowly disappeared from the orchards and consequently
from the marketplace. This interest has become his hobby. He has sought
old books and journals long out of print and the knowledge and interest
of other nurserymen to increase his own knowledge of the subject. We now
have 240 varieties of apples growing on our farm. We also grow some of
the newest varieties that are being introduced into the marketplace. He
is known as "John, the Apple Man" for his love and interest in
John and Phyllis Kilcherman
Northport residents John and Phyllis Kilcherman received the 1996 "Award of Merit" from the Historical Society of Michigan at its annual convention Saturday in Ludington. The owners of Kilcherman's Christmas Cove Farm were recognized for their work in preservation of "antique" apple varieties; they'll have about 100 different varieties of apples at their farm market when the harvest peaks in October. Three generations of the family work at the farm, according to the couple.
