Yakima Memory
Images and Collections of the Yakima Valley Regional Library and the Yakima Valley Museum
Research historical images from Yakima Valley history through the internet. Access digitalized images from the Relander Collection at the Yakima Valley Regional Library and the Sundquist Research Library at the Yakima Valley Museum. Visit us at www.yakimamemory.org
The Project
The Yakima Memory project was established through a grant from the Washington State Digital Images Initiative. A co-operative effort between the Yakima Valley Regional Library and Yakima Valley Museum, this project enabled both facilities to digitalize images in their collections. The images were scanned, documented and entered into a database, providing easier access to them for research and study, and protecting the original photographs from harmful effects of light and human contact. In addition, this process allows another avenue of preservation of the images through digital storage.
Collections Access
To access the collections on the internet, point your browser to the URL www.yakimamemory.org and select "Search Collections" from the main screen. You may search across both collections or individual collections using keywords.
System Requirements
- A Java-enabled browser, such as Netscape or Internet Explorer version 4.0 and above.
- A minimum screen resolution of 800 x 600.
The Future
The initial phase of this project digitalized images from existing photographic prints. Yakima Memory will continue to increase in size with the addition of images from other sources including slides, scrapbooks, sound and moving image files, and glass-plate negatives. We welcome your input on this project. Please visit us on the web, or stop by the Yakima Valley Museum or Yakima Valley Regional Library.
